The initial UK ETA application launch date was October 2023, when it was introduced to the citizens of Qatar travelling to the UK. It extends to passport holders from South Korea travelling to or transiting through the UK on or after January 8, 2025. Since November 27, 2024, South Korean citizens have been able to apply for the UK ETA online, replacing the previous system which allowed South Korean citizens to travel to the UK visa-free. South Koreans will therefore need an ETA to enter the UK for short visits. The UK ETA has a standard duration of stay of six months – meeting the UK government’s definition of a short stay – and can be used for any traveller wishing to visit the UK for the following reasons:
